RSHE

At Woodside Primary Academy, we have been implementing the PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) Programme across our school using a resource called Jigsaw. Jigsaw’s content and approach meet the Department of Education’s requirements and allow schools to deliver lessons that are child-friendly and engaging for all. You may be aware that all primary schools in England are also required to teach lessons on Relationships and Sex Education and the Jigsaw scheme ensures that we meet these requirements.

The Jigsaw lessons since September have built children’s emotional literacy, self-esteem and knowledge of who they are and how they relate to each other and the world in a positive and healthy way. In the Summer Term, children will be taught the Relationship, Health Education and Sex Education curriculum under the Puzzles (units): Relationships (unit 1) and Changing Me (unit 2).

The Changing Me Puzzle includes, in every year group, 2 or 3 lessons to help children understand the changes puberty brings and how human reproduction happens. There is a very serious safeguarding aspect to this work and obviously the younger year groups are not looking at these issues directly and explicitly but rather learning correct terminology for body parts and doing the foundation work for later year groups.

Under the RSHE tab you will find the following documents:

·         Lesson plans for both Puzzles (units) for Reception to Year 6

·         Which year groups have non-statutory lessons which parents have the right to withdraw their child from

·         Examples of resources for particular lessons

·         Progression maps for both Puzzles (units) – Relationships and Changing Me (Reception to Year 6)

·         Woodside’s RSE policy

·         Jigsaw’s Information on RSHE for parents and carers

·         Jigsaw’s approach to teaching about LGBT+ relationships

These documents are password protected and you have been given the password on your RSHE letter from Woodside.
