WEEK BEGINNING 8TH JUNE
Day 1 : Rainbow Mediation
Can you guess what we are doing today ? we are going to focus on our breathing and be like the clouds around the rainbow. Click here to start using your breathes to relax and calm.
Day 2: Rainbow Walk
Can you name all the colours in the rainbow? Well you will need to remember them in order to do todays activity. Today whilst taking your walk or daily exercise you need to ask your child/ren to look for something red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Keep going through the colours, in order, until the end of your walk.
Here are some suggestions for to make it a little more interesting:
- Take a photo of at least one image with each colour;
- Bring a sketchbook--even if you're not an artist, it will really help them focus on what you're looking at
- Write in a diary about the things they noticed and how they made them feel.
Day 3 : Strike a pose
Another easy way to introduce mindfulness is through body poses. Today we will get children excited ,tell them that doing fun poses can help them feel strong, brave, and happy.
Take them somewhere quiet and familiar, a place they feel safe. Next, tell them to try one of the following poses:
- The Superman: this pose is practiced by standing with the feet just wider than the hips, fists clenched, and arms reached out to the sky, stretching the body as tall as possible.
- The Wonder Woman: this pose is struck by standing tall with legs wider than hip-width apart and hands or fists placed on the hips
Ask them afterwards how they feel after a few rounds of trying either of these poses. You may be surprised!
Day 4 : Body Awareness
Today we will focus on a simple game to develop focus and body awareness. It can be used to combat boredom while standing in a line, for example.
Ask your child to focus their gaze on a point slightly below eye level. Then ask her to stand on one leg and keep her gaze on you. How long can she balance like this?
Try the other leg. To make it more difficult, engage your child in conversation. Ask her to sing something or to balance with her eyes closed. You can even see who can balance the longest time.
See if balancing becomes easier when you add mindful breathing to it.
Day 5 : Pennies Game
Today we will talk money, but not in the way you think. Through this fun mindfulness activity, you will be able to encourage more focus, patience and turn taking.
What you need: One penny or any coin for each player, a basket/container
Everyone gets a penny and a minute to study it in detail. The pennies are then placed back in the basket. Each player has to pick a coin out of all the coins and say how they knew it was theirs. This game can be played with different objects.
Remember to join me every school week on a Monday at 11am for Mindfulness with Miss Brown.
Have a great week !
