Early Years

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Our Early Years’ Philosophy is based on a deep understanding of the ways in which children learn through:

Playing & exploring, doing & reviewing, direct teaching and building on from what the pupils already know and can do.

Learning at Woodside, journeys through repetitive learning opportunities that include ’concrete’, ‘pictorial’ and introduce some ‘abstract’ processes and experiences. This is to ensure each child has a firm understanding of what they are learning and have  the necessary procedural skills and knowledge to move on to the next stage of their learning journey and schooling.

We strive to ensure our pupils make outstanding progress.

The Early Years Foundation Stage, underlying principles sits within the whole school's curriculum intent.

Our Curriculum

Woodside Primary Academy is located in an area with a rich social and culturally diverse community; we use this as a basis for our curriculum which celebrates diversity and utilises the skills, knowledge and cultural wealth of the community whilst supporting the pupils’ spiritual, moral and cultural development.

At Woodside we provide a broad, well-sequenced curriculum; which is enriched through themed topics and experiences, children's interests and fascinations. We are guided by our knowledge of early child development and the statutory Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework, for children aged from birth to five years. Our curriculum provides challenge and clear progression within the EYFS and into Y1.

(See attached document for our full Early Years' curriculum statement of intent).
